Border View Family YMCA

30,000 square foot, Two-story Fitness Facility in South San Diego.

The challenge was to design the new building with an ethnic contemporary interior design feel. While Kenneth D Smith Architects was working on the building design and permit through the DSA, kmid was working on the interior design.

Interior material and finish selections, millwork design, lighting selections and FF&E material and finish selections.

An ethnic contemporary feel was achieved using rich warm paint tones, blonde birch veneer doors and hand railing, laminate millwork with solid surface counters. Recessed, wall sconce and pendant lighting, 2’ x 4’ acoustic ceiling tile and exposed acoustic covered deck. Carpet tile in perimeter rooms, stained concrete in open area, maple and rubber sport floor and manual mesh roller shades

The design concept was met and the Y members are enjoying their ethnic contemporary design branch.  This project was constructed by TFW, window shades by Shades of Light San Diego, FF&E by SDOi and Haworth.
